Houston Police Endorse Sylvester Turner
Today, Houston Police Officers’ Union PAC voted unanimously to endorse Mayor Sylvester Turner in his re-election campaign.
“He is the first Mayor in a generation to tackle the staffing crisis that has plagued the Houston Police Department for far too long. He committed to the community and Houston Police Officers to grow our department by 100 police officers, over attrition, for the next 5 years. He made good on that commitment in year one and this year’s budget shows he will make good on it yet again in year two,” the group said in a statement.
The endorsement doesn’t come as a surprise as Turner has sided with the Police Union in recent years, particularly in the contentious fight over Fire Fighter Pay Parity.
The Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association along with the Houston Black Firefighters Association, the Houston Hispanic Fire Fighters, and the Houston Retired Fire Fighters have all endorsed Council Member Dwight Boykins’ campaign for mayor.
The city’s municipal union has yet to issue an endorsement.
