Boykins Running for Mayor and Endorsed by Firefighters
With a treasurer designation filed and the endorsement of the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association, Council Member Dwight Boykins (District D) is officially running for Mayor of Houston.
Last week, we broke the story that the website DwightBoykinsforMayor.com was live. It has since been taken down but, at the time, Boykins told those inquiring that it was a draft version and he was considering running.
Early this week, it was noted that Boykins filed a campaign treasurer designation making Lee P. Brown, former Mayor of Houston, his campaign treasurer. Brown was the first Black mayor elected in the City of Houston.
Today, the firefighters announced an endorsement for Boykins’ campaign.
Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association member Ryan Lee told Urban Reform, “The room of firefighters overwhelmingly supported the union board’s recommendation to endorse Boykins,” at their general membership meeting.
According to some in attendance, Boykins committed to resolving the Proposition B pay parity issue within his first 30 days in office.
In a press release, HPFFA President Marty Lancton called Boykins “a natural, loyal leader” whose record on council proves that.
